To use the drum, the heartbeat of Africa, to express African solidarity in pursuit of peace (Silencing the Guns) on Africa Day (25 May).

Everybody who believes in and supports the call for eradicating the effects of instruments of war and civil disruptions, through the Silencing of the Guns (as expressed by the African Union in its Agenda 2063).

All you need to do is drum, record and upload a video of yourself drumming for peace onto www.silencingtheguns.africa. You can also register online stating where you will be drumming from.

No, given the effects and rate of infection of COVID-19 no designated places have been identified. However, we advise you to participate from the safety of your homes unless there are no restrictions to you doing so in a public place with significant value.

Yes. We encourage drummers from every corner of Africa to lend their rhythm to the ‘Silencing the Guns’ campaign this Africa Day, May 25th. There are no limits to the creative expressions we welcome. Whether you are a solo artist, part of a drumming circle, or a collective from the same nation, we want to hear your beat for peace. Let the diverse rhythms of your country resonate with the unified call to silence the guns. Share your drumming video with us at www.silencingtheguns.africa and let’s create a powerful symphony of peace together!

A drum of any kind or percussion instrument and a camera or a smartphone to record the audio and visual elements of your drumming experience, which can be upload onto www.silencingtheguns.africa.

No. This is not a commercially motivated project but a call to all Africans to volunteer in drumming to silence the guns.

You may upload it to www.silencingtheguns.africa as your own contribution to this project. Please read our terms and conditions prior to uploading your contribution.

Yes. Drumming will commence at 8:00 SAST.

All submissions will be reviewed and considered for inclusion within the creation of a master composition or video, which will be shared on www.silencingtheguns.africa and other media channels. ZACR and RA reserve the sole discretion to determine which audio and video clips shall form part of production of a master composition and/or video clip. Note that this is a long term objective of a project of this nature.

Yes, our passion for peace, expressed through the beat of a drum, is what truly matters. You don’t need to be a professional drummer to participate in ‘Silencing the Guns’ this Africa Day.

Yes. Collective will is a key ingredient to manage the challenging social, economic and political conditions that we currently face.

Yes, as it will give us a sense of who you are. However, if that is not possible then an audio clip would suffice because the sound of every drum is important.

You may save your audio and/or video recording of your drumming clip so that you can upload it, when connectivity is good or when you have access to an Internet facility, onto www.silencingtheguns.africa.

A drum or anything that can serve as a percussion instrument, a video-recorder or a smartphone and a tripod to enable steady recording if that is available or possible.

Any drum or anything that can serve as a percussion instrument would be enough for you to participate.

Whilst creativity cannot be prescribed, it would be ideal if you could drum to a beat that resonates within your particular community or African region. The beat must also dwarf the sound of the gun.

It will not be used for commercial purposes, but for creating awareness around the effects of instruments of war – Silencing the Guns.

The ZA Central Registry NPC (ZACR), Registry Africa Limited (RA) and the African Union (AU) are collaborating on this project given its significance to Agenda 2063, especially the need of various sectors within the African community to work as a collective in realizing peace within the African Continent. Both ZACR and RA are registry operators responsible for managing a number of domain names spaces such as co.za, net.za, org.za,web.za, .africa, .capetown, .durban and .joburg.
